An intense red, with saturated flavors of blackberry and plum shaded by earth, eucalyptus and mineral notes. All its components are in the right place, and it's backed by a spine of refined and resonant tannins. Best from 2025 through 2042. 8,017 cases made, 2,393 cases imported.

This has aromas of French oak, scorched earth and underbrush. The concentrated, one-dimensional palate exhibits licorice and stewed prune, but it totally lacks fruit richness while the heat of raw alcohol dominates. Close-grained tannins grip the finish.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is intensely dark and moody, as crushed ashen stone gives way to savory herbs and cherry sauce. On the palate, this is more lifted and energetic than anticipated, with vibrant acidity enlivening the rich red fruits and spices. That said, the 2017 is also a bit one-dimensional, leaving notes of inner rose, mocha and hard candies to linger through the structured finale.
